They appear in the order in which they are listed in the key. Add tools by their code-name (listed below), separated by a semicolon and ending with a semicolon.Locate the Favorites= key in the GUI section.Edit the options file in a text editor. This is to ensure that your manual edits to the options file remain intact. If RawTherapee is running, turn it off. For the time being, users who wish to "favorite" specific tools need to do so manually, as described below. The Favorites tab is hidden by default, and appears when tools are added to it.Ī graphical user interface for easily marking tools as "favorited" is being worked on, but due to time constraints related to the release date, this GUI is not ready for 5.6 and will feature in a future release. Tools listed in the Favorites tab are removed from their tabs of origin. More steps involved with DT, but the results are now comparable to RT.RawTherapee 5.6 introduced a new "Favorites" tab, which allows you to list your favorite tools for quick access. Defringing works but is less intuitive than RT's so you may need to use masks and saturation. tdlr: Darktable's chromatic aberation removal works, but only on export. Then I had to bring up the saturation in the color to pump color back into the picture since heavy defringing drained a good amount of color out of the picture. I needed to create a brush mask for the defringe, brush a small red neon sign in the distance (which kept getting decolorized when I used the defringing tool), then reverse the mask. This automatic tool did help quite a bit, though further defringing was needed. You must export to actually see the effect take place. It does NOT show you a preview of this tool correctly. It's just RawTherapee's sharpening and defringing tools are so much more powerful.ĮDIT: Just in case anyone comes to this thread later, I did manage to get Darktable's chromatic abberation tool to work better. I've read about Art (the RawTherapee fork) but I'd prefer to stay with Darktable. So I'm wondering if there are any scripts that I can add to Darktable that are more powerful for defringing and sharpening than whats already included in the program. And you can use masks and add film grain. Darktable feels more modern, fun and faster. The modules are a lot slower and more annoying to use than Darktable. I can't seem to get the same results with darktable's sharpening or defringing tools.īut then.RawTherapee is honestly a pain to use. Plugins for repairing visual imperfections include: dithering sharpen equalizer denoise (non-local means) defringe haze removal. Darktable's looks too muddy in comparison when looking at details. It tends to be way way overdone out of the box compared to darktable, very crunchy and oversharpened, but by dialing it back I can easily work with a much sharper and cleaner picture. AND I can actually adjust the levels of it too, it's not just "automatic." Another thing that impressed me was how rawtherapee implements its automatic base curves and sharpening. Not only does eliminate almost all of it, it doesn't suck the color out of the rest of the image. Darktable's defringing didn't really do much of a job in correcting the problem- either I got rid of the chromatic aberrations and LOTS of color in the picture, or just nothing.įrustrated, I downloaded RawTherapee and was blown away by how much better it was for fixing chromatic aberration. I'm using budget Canon lenses so of course I get lots of ugly fringing in situations like this. Then I started editing some landscape shots with lots of detail in faraway trees. I didn't really have a problem grasping how to use them quickly and was fairly happy with the pictures I was getting, so I didn't bother with anything else. I started with Darktable since it was the first name that jumped out, and most of the modules are clean and straightforward. Hey guys, I've just started getting into editing raw recently.
